Authentication letters & V765 Applications
We provide DVLA accepted authentication letters to enable you to obtain an age-related plate for your Lambretta or Vespa scooter. The letters cover Lambrettas built in the main manufacturing countries for Lambretta of Italy, Spain and India (and we can also supply letters for Lambrettas made in France, Germany etc). The letters also cover Vespa scooters built in Italy, Spain, France, India and Great Britain.
Should you require a letter of authenticity for your Lambretta or Vespa please send your frame and engine number, Lambretta/Vespa model, and a cheque or Postal Order for £7 made out to BRITISH LAMBRETTA ARCHIVE and send (along with your details) to: British Lambretta Archive, 95 Grove Road, Blaby, Leicester, LE8 4DH. Alternatively, you can pay via Paypal by making your payment to: soulie66@aol.com
Ideally we'd like a frame rubbing or digital photo of the scooters frame number, however, this is not essential. If you send a photo then please ensure that you also write down the frame number. Badly taken photographs result in misreads of the frame number and an inconvenience to both the BLA and the applicant when letters need to be changed.
All letters come with a sheet detailing what you need to do next in order to register your scooter (Insurance, MOT etc.), thus ensuring that you are in possession of all the information you'll need to get on the road.
We look forward to hearing from you and helping you to register your scooter.
If you have any questions then please e-mail us at BLAAuthentications@hotmail.co.uk
Please note that the turnaround time for letters of authentication is 21 days (though they are often done well before that).
V765 Applications - if you are looking to retain the original registration number of your scooter then we will be happy to help. The cost for this service is still £7 and we will need to see the following:
(i) 2 photographs of the complete scooter
(ii) Documentary evidence of the registration mark (i.e. pre 1983 MOT, pre-1983 tax disk, RF 60 log book or original register entry from the original issuing council)
(iii) V765 form
Send the above to us (do not send original documentary evidence to us as we will not be liable for any loss in transit) and we will issue you with a letter requesting the retention of the original mark along with us stamping and signing the relevant parts of the V765 form.
*What to do if you have a letter rejected by DVLA*
Since November 2013 the DVLA have tightened up on authentications. Applications are being rejected for a number of reasons which are normally as follows:
1. Photocopy of authentication letter - please ensure you send them the original letter.
2. Out of date letter - all letters are now only valid for 12 months from the date of issue. Please ensure that your letter is in date before you send it to DVLA.
3. Incorrect wording on the letter - letters that were issued pre-May 2014 had an old style caption on them that suited DVLA's needs at that time. However, that has changed and in line with point 2 above, these letters will be out of date.
Out of date letters from 2016 will be re-issued for a fee of £5 and anything from 2015 and before that will be re-issued for a fee of £7.
Also please note that DVLA do send letters out when they reject an application. If your application is rejected and you request another authentication letter then please ensure that you send us a copy of the DVLA rejection letter so we can see why your application has been refused.
